According to a recent survey conducted by the Canadian Institute for Health Information, Canada now has around 350,000 regulated nurses across the country. Since 2005, approximately 30,000 nurses joined the Canadian work force. About 75% of those nurses are registered nurses, followed closely by licensed practical nurses, who have experienced the highest growth rate in the nursing workforce.

A new report released December 1, 2010, has concluded that self-confidence and a can-do attitude are the main determinants to an immigrant's success in Canada. The report was authored by a psychology professor at UBC and an immigrant support group called SUCCESS, based in Vancouver.

Federal Skilled Worker program are contributing to Canada's economy. According to the evaluation, the biggest predictors of an immigrant’s
economic success are having a job already arranged in Canada when applying; the ability to speak English or French; and having worked in Canada before applying to immigrate.

The Government of Canada has announced it will not participate in the events to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Program of Action (DDPA) in September 2011. Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said, “Our government has lost faith in the Durban process. We will not be part of this event, which commemorates an agenda that promotes racism rather than combats it.”
