Before coming to Canada, i thought i will get to see many white people (just like we see in American movies), when i arrived here, that was not the case (in etobicoke and scarborough, Toronto), lots of immigrants and less white!

Lol you are funny. Went to Canada to see white people? I'm kidding. Well I hope Canada will be 100 times more organised, civilized and cleaner than India and driving in Canada won't be like a thriller movie like it is in India where you're not sure what might jump in front of your car. Dogs, cows, people, aliens anything. :p

i thought canada would be like US open to talent however I found out in canada its all about who u know and what language u speak.I thought canada would have good jobs like US but jobs r for those who know people in high position and not based on talent. throughout A+ is not enough or being an expert in ur field is not enough .
only thing good about canada is that PR is relatively easy.
sorry if this offends anyone.

very true.....and I am a bit biased towards US...jobs in canada r found through networking which becomes very difficult for those of us who dont know anyone here or do not have relatives. few jobs r posted online than actually open through relatives/friends etc.

ye if u manage to find a skilled job may be it is a bit stable than US but finding a job is the tough part. US has many opportunities which can be accessed through online job sites u dont need networking....if u can network in US its even better but u dont need it. in canada to put it bluntly u need to lick a$$ to find a job.I have seen people who have poor grades get jobs because they knew someone and could fake speaking french(by showing they joined french classes and speaking broken french). I am not yet looking but this all depresses me. I still have time to graduate but I wish I dont have to do such things. sometimes i feel it is also dependent which country ur from and what part of that country ur from.
again sorry this is just my impression and not pointing fingers

didnt knew that in US you dont need to network a lot. hmm.. i guess in US they actually hire people with skill set rather than just "who you know".

and population is 10 times there, so more opportunities?

deport me to US! :D

Nice one :p, it is actually due to the fact that both Scarborough and Etobicoke are among the municipalities with the highest congregation of immigrants, in case of Scarborough, visible minorities make up 67.8% of the population. Overall, Canada is 76.7% white.

When I went to Canada way back in 2010, I expected it to be a country with clean and safe neighbourhoods, well maintained parks, wide roads, nice cars and good driving manners.

And it has proven to be even better for me, people are friendly and helpful, rules are strictly enforced, the environment is pristine, in all I am absolutely in love with this place. Your mileage may vary though.

Just a few random things:

-I was charged 80 pounds at Heathrow because of a silly mistake where my first name was switched with my last name while booking on Expedia
( remember surname=last name)

-For the first few days, I spent some time with relatives who in one way or another tried to impress me with their language or kids ( I know your kids have an accent LOL )

-For the first time, I thanked youtube for teaching me various recipes (learn to cook while you can)

-Learnt that telecom companies are sort of robbing people here (Check out Google voice )

-That it's important to understand the value of a dollar and not spent it as a rupee (and not convert everything into Indian currency as well)

-You'll have to pay for the polythene bag too when you shop (applies at some places)

-My perspective on gays/lesbians changed (a taboo to talk about in an Indian family, ps im straight)

-Snow is not as fun as it seems ( The first time it snowed, I posted 'I love snow' on FB) I HATE WINTER and I HATE SNOW NOW!

-Do not bring in anything from the roadside without thoroughly checking it for bedbugs ( major problem in North America)

-I say 'sorry' as much as 10 times a day which in no way means that I'm making fun of anyone

1. haha, the it's fun but at the same time you start thinking how convenient it was staying back with mom and getting food without any effort.
2. i have been here for around 10 months, i still convert the CAD to PHP (i came from philippines, thats why), but my relatives keep telling me that i should not convert. lol, its easier for them to tell coz they are earning Dollar.
3. snow is fine, what troublesome is the cold. if it can snow without cold, that would be awesome. lol
4. oh, you mean the stuff people leave outside their house and anyone can get it?
5. lol what?

--------------------------------
1 more thing, you have to insert a freaking coin to get a shopping cart in groceries, what a weird piece of ****, why not just leave them unlocked all the time. first world problems.
