The Right Honorable Chris Alexander, MP & Immigration Minister will hold a public BBQ at the Ajax Downs (Kingston Rd & Alexander's Crossing) on July 1st, 2014 - between 1pm and 6pm

AJAX DOWNS
50 Alexander’s Crossing
(at Kingston Rd, East of Salem)
Ajax, Ontario (25 minutes east of Toronto)

It is appalling how our government treats us - if you have a grievance regarding unreasonable delays, please come to Ajax this coming Tuesday Canada day and voice your dissatisfaction. Prepare your facts in a brief statement, so that each one of us will get a chance to speak. Bring a single sheet of letter sized paper that will have the number of days since you submitted your application on it. Hold it in front of your chest. Ask to talk to the man. Form a line, be peaceful, polite but firm. Peace!

Well that is his riding. Where do you expect him to put on a Canada day public bbq?

I know the minister is "the boss" but in all honesty its not him personally holding up anyone's family application or wanting to prevent legitimate spouses from being separated a day longer than necessary.

He inherited the waittime mess from the last guy who inherited it from the guy before him who got it from the person before him going down the line..

I think most of us understand that while we here are typically legitimate cases just trying to figure out our way the mess of requirements those same requirements often weed out the crazy applications preventing them from entry.

Its a difficult but necessary evil.

Kysorb - you have a very enlightened view of the situation (which I mostly agree with). Too bad most do not have your sentiments.

Good idea. At least he will know how people are suffering with years of delay on spousal immigration.

I agree that they inherit all the craziness from the person before, but it's possible that someone could start something that might change the experience for future applicants, however difficult that may be. Takes that one person to make a change.

Well yes, yes and yes. However, last year, Jason Kenney directly caused the strike to be prolonged, when the union actually offered to go back to work immediately as long as the government would have agreed to submit the case to arbitration. The government played hardball and eventually lost at an appeal and had to make a deal with the union. The strike not only caused the dealys to grow... for example Manila processing for spouses went up from 8 months to 14 months.... It also saved the government $$$ as they paid no salaries while the strike was on. They should now spend some money to catch up! Come on people, speak up. The man should know that we are unhappy about this. Did you guys look at the processing times online? They did not even post the new "quarterly" update. The last one is March 10th. I guess I am just too fed up with the system. It's like they are not serving us - we elected them, but they laugh into our faces. You call the CIC hotline, they have no information to share with you. The last guy I spoke to actually agreed with me that without the delays, he would not have his cushy govt. call centre job. Because most people just call because of the delays. The processing centres should just catch up once and then keep it that way. Imagine that you own a bakery, but because every day you have left over bread from the day before, you don't sell fresh bread, but you sell bread from the day before. Every day. And all your customers are always unhappy. In real life, a bakery like that would go out of business. Unfortunately, the govt. has no competition. They can shove their stale bread down our throats every day. I spoke to Mr. Alexander last fall. He said he just inherited the job (became the Immigration Minister) and he will clean up the backlog. He said "just watch me" - funny how he quoted a famous Liberal. I should have known better not to believe a politician. Sorry for my venting, my wife had a miscarriage, she is depressed and waiting for her passport to be returned. They gave us 45 days to deliver App A, HK Police Certificate, photos and passport. It's been 2 months that they have it all. No indication when will they bother to review our file and stamp her passport. Last year I took her to Europe during the summer, no problem getting an EU visitors visa. Now I can't even do that - her passport is at the embassy. Spent $20k (that I'd rather still have) just visiting back and forth like a yo-yo....

As the current minister .. he is the one that have to give answers and solutions...
We can not ask for answers or solutions to previous ministers....
Its his portfolio and he is the one that need to provide suitable solutions....

For spousal straight forward cases, they should at least reduce waiting time significantly which will help the new immigrant community to contribute more significantly for their new country. The sooner the better.
