I'm on a work permit here in Quebec since Jan 2009. I got my csq and sent the federal application at buffalo

Here's my time line:
Applied for CSQ: July 2009
CSQ Received: Feb 2010.
Federal app sent to buffalo: Feb 2010
Federal app returned (**see below): March 2010
Federal app re-sent to buffalo: March 2010.
Cashier check cashed: 13 April 2010

still waiting for AOR....

**That's a tricky one, I think new applicants should watch out for: I have read so many posts on this forum that recommend a CSQ applicant to send a completed and signed application along the CSQ application if u're applying in montreal office, since there's some kind of agreement between buffalo office and montreal office that may save u a couple of months off. Two things might happen when you do this:
1 - You get your federal app stamped by the MICC,
2 - And they MIGHT give you the medical forms right away, so you can send the app kit, meanwhile take the med exams and send them directly to buffalo.
I don't know the rule for the second point, but for some reason I was not given the medicals with the CSQ. I got my federal app stamped by the MICC with the date 20th of June 2009. I HAD FILLED THE FEDERAL APP IN JUNE 2009 AND THAT'S WHY THE APP WAS RETURNED, BECAUSE BUFFALO CLAIMED THAT I DIDN'T REPORT WHERE I LIVED OR WHAT WAS I DOING FROM JUNE 2009 TILL FEB 2010.
That's why the application was returned which is pretty stupid, since nothing's changed between the 2 dates, but anyway i filled the "missing" info and resent the application.

Hope that is useful so that ppl avoid that pitfall.

Thanks man. On a side note, is there anyway I can change the mailing address before receiving the AOR (and the file no.) ?
I emailed and faxed them with a "Mailing address change request" and that's what I got:

Please allow at least 30 weeks between our receipt of an application and its return to you or our sending of the acknowledgment of receipt letter.
Please wait until you hear from us with further instructions and do not contact our office or send in any further documentation during that period.

Pretty useless, and contradicting what's mentioned on their website, that I shouldn't contact them until I receive the AOR, EXCEPT to change the mailing address. What's your take on this one guys ?

your is the most unique case i hace seen so far for CSQ..and your application has given me new insights...i use to think i ll get csq in 5 months time..but looks need to wait a bit longer!!

could you tell us in Detail your application date...first AOR..then any interrview call..or CSQ recienved..questions from interview(if any)..

I know there are a lot of folks here in Quebec who received the CSQ in less than 5 months, and sometimes as fast as 3 months only.
There's the preliminary evaluation that the MICC does I guess, where it's determined first if the adaptability points are needed to acquire the CSQ, and hence if an interview is required. Some other times the interview is required only to verify your background and your language abilities. There's also for sure a huge factor of luck when it comes to processing times. In my case, I was called for an interview in Montreal. Nothing special to tell in the interview, the officer revised my work and education certificates, asked some basic questions like why I chose quebec, what do I know about quebec values and history (which I didn't know very much about), whether I'll be working at the same place for the next few years, etc... I interview was in french for no reason other than the officer barely spoke any English. My french is very basic I'd say

Here's a detailed time-line (took me some time to recall the exact dates):
20th of June: CSQ package sent to montreal.
22nd of June: CSQ package received.
23rd of July: Credit card charged by quebec immigration.
3rd of August (not sure about the exact date): AOR received.
10th of November(not sure about the exact date): Interview request.
8th of Feb 2010, interview attended, CSQ received.
11th of Feb 2010 fed app+ police certificates sent to buffalo, NY.
17th of Feb 2010: Package received at buffalo.
9th of March 2010: App returned (incomplete app, see my other post).
10th of March 2010: App resent to buffalo.
18th of March app 2010: App package received at buffalo.
13th of April 2010: Cashier check cashed.
Still waiting for AOR...

I am not an expert, but my suggestion would be to not even think about changing your mailing address.. It will really complicate things right now...

You have applied to federal canada right? I guess you will now receive a new File No.... Once you get the AOR with a new file no..then you can change your mailing address...

Well when it comes to changing the mailing address some time we don't have the choice but to do it. Besides it's stated on the buffalo website that we shouldn't contact them during the first 20 weeks EXCEPT when changing the mailing address, but I'm not sure how to do that.

i'm moving probably in a couple of weeks, out of city.
But the problem is that the mailing address is my
x-employer's office. And the company's just shutdown. So very soon, I won't have access to anything sent there. I just want to change it to my current home address, so even if I moved out , my roommate can get my mail.

Well then U need to send a change of mailing address request quoting your csq file no...they will be able to match !!
