Wrongly rejected due to expired ECA

Hi,

My application was rejected saying my ECA has expired. I got my ECA in May 2013 and that should be valid for 5 years but they sited the reason on the letter that its only valid for 2 years. Also the strangest thing that happened was that on the second page of the rejection letter they says that ECA validity is 5 years. I called the helpline and they confirm the validity of 5 years on my ECA and recommended for me to raise a case specific inquiry to the Sydney office. Has anyone encountered such problem and if so does Sydney office reply (its been 10 days for me)?

Sorry about your refusal.

Unlikely to get this reopened but let's wait for the CSE response. The likely reason for refusal if that your ECA (assuming it is from WES) doesn't have the 'IMM' suffix which makes it searchable on their system. You'll have to request WES to issue a revised ECA which is compliant with CIC requirements.

I dont know what happened - they seem to have located my ECA since reason rejection is
"Specifically, your application does not include the following elements:
- Education Credentials:
o A VALID Education Credential Assessment (ECA) was not included with your electronic application. Under the Federal Skilled Worker program applicants must provide either proof of Canadian education credentials or obtain an ECA, assessed within two years of your received date, along with proof of foreign education credentials. Your credential from WES is dated May 21, 2013 and is no longer valid as of May 21, 2015. Your application was received January 29, 2016.
Applications submitted without mandatory documents cannot be considered complete."

does this make sense or you feel I still need to get a new ECA issued from WES?

The keyword is VALID.

There was a change in WES practices around mid 2014 and reports issued before that are no longer valid for IRCC purposes even though they haven't expired as they are less than 5 years old. The new reports are issued with an IMM suffix. Send an inquiry to WES to issue you a revised report which is compatible with IRCC requirements - I imagine it costs about $80.

You are lucky then bellaluna. I think its as Asivad says your WES report must end with IMM.. CIC says if your report is before apr2013 you need to ask for a new one but mine was issued on 21st may 2013.. over a month post the cufoff date.. I am just frustrated with how CIC is dealing with things.. If a document is missing they could have asked for it or an updated version - whats the point of rejecting.. I hope I get a response for the CSE I raised.. Sad bit it now I have to build the profile again and will loose points for age

I really hope your case reconsidered because the CIC site, up to today, does say five years: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/assessment.asp

You need to go to WES, Log in to your account and "upgrade" your order. You will get a new ECA with an IMM suffix (as Asivad Anac mentioned) and you can download an electronic copy. I did this for my submission, and then used a CSE to update CIC. The cost id CAD 30 + 3.90 taxes. The process is complete in 1 working day.

Better upgrade your report on WES site.
They do it within 1 business day.

Best to write to CES just to be sure your ECA is still valid for Express Entry.
I looked into ICAS, and it appears they charge a reactivation fee every 2 years, so I thought for a while OP's ECA came from ICAS (and then I read they clearly mentioned WES).

There is no imm anywhere. So u guys mean my PR application will also be rejected AOR 19th dec 2015... I submitted the same report for my state nomination which got approved.

i dont agree with u on this since the cause of rejection is clearly mentioned that its valid only for 2 yrs. whether that is a mistake by cic or not is debatable. But if application doesnt have imm number that doesnt mean its not serchable online. My report is of 2014 aug without imm number. So u mean cic will say to me its not valid since its 18 months old....

The 'IMM' issue isn't new - search the forum for a similar set of complaints some time in mid 2015 as well.
