Hi Guys,

Can a closed bonded work permit holder engage in, own, or partner with a business in a rural area? If so, what are the requirements? Additionally, what is the process for transitioning from an existing closed work permit to a business owner status, and where can we find the official details?

TIA.

No. You can only work for that employer. Look at start up visa program or the PNP entrepreneur program for the province you want to start the business. You need a lot of money, business plan, experience etc. Now I guess you could be a silent investor but cannot work for for the business nor does it give you any immigration benefits.

No, not on your current work permit. You need an LMIA for the new job and a new work permit before you can change jobs and start working for your own business.

Would also warn you if you are trying to qualify for one of the rural PR programs this will likely not work unless this is a longterm established business with more than you and a business partner as employees.
