Hi,

I (British citizen in UK) applied for an Electronic Travel Authorisation in May last year. I have a historic minor conviction from over 10 years ago.

I have still have not had the application back. When I contact the embassy, I am just told it is still being reviewed.

I have Air Canada airline credit which expires in April next year. I am not optimistic about getting my eTA before then and I cannot use the the credit with any other airline. A friend suggested that I could apply for a visitor visa which might be quicker. I had assumed that I would just need to go through the same process (supply information, have it reviewed by an officer) and therefore would be subject to the same wait. I would be grateful for any information on if visitor visa are generally processed quicker than eTAs or have published targets for processing times. Also if anyone has any other advice on my options I would be very grateful.

Many thanks in advance!

The TRV would go through the same process.

eTAs are processed much much faster than TRVs.
