Would my spouse's child have to leave Canada with us?

Hi, me and my spouse are considering moving out to Canada with his son who is 17 which would require me to go through the process of sponsoring them. What would happen if at a later date when my spouse's son is 19 years old or older, me and my spouse decide to move back to England? Would my spouse's child be allowed to stay in Canada as a permanent resident even though we would've moved back to England since he would be classed as an adult by Canada? All answers would be heavily appreciated. Thank you.

yes he can stay in Canada . Once he is a landed immigrant he can stay. I would then advise him to get his citizenship . He can keep both passports then won't have any restrictions of how long he can stay out of the country . Good luck .

Once he's a permanent resident, it won't matter how he got it (sponsorship or otherwise) or your status. As long as he meets the residency obligation he is still a permanent resident and allowed to stay, work or study.

There may be other legal issues around him staying in Canada if you leave before he is legally an adult, but immigration status will not be one of them.
