Hi!
Im a British citizen at the age of 16 and probably wont be able to move to Canada for a good while yet (10 years + if I do at all) but Id like to know if I would be eligible if I were lets say 20/25. Im currently learning computer programming. I have been programming since the age of 7 making basic computer programs. Then when I was 13 one of my Moms friends who owns a computer programming company assessed my skill levels said I was at degree level in IT (not programming as I still didnt have any direction in that department and was still making basic computer programs) and he has helped me over the years become more advanced at computer programming. I can now develop websites and I can make a basic iPhone app from the ground up. Theres still more learning to be done but im at a higher level then some people I know that I have seen graduate from University. I dont plan to go to college or university though. I dropped out of school when I was 12 due to the school ignoring the anxiety issues I had at the time. (which are now not a problem I am glad to say)
My biggest aspiration is building a business out of my own skill set. Im looking into starting a web venture or an iPhone app and a few other things like a tutorial website and web development business. By the time I will be able to move to Canada I will more then likely have a business set up of my own (in the computer programming industry) and if not that I will probably have a skilled job in programming. Il be happy to work or work for my self (or even do both. Im *not* shy of work) if I move to Canada.
Would I be eligible for a visa in Canada with my current skill set? If I were to move to Canada I would make sure my business will be based there.
Im also very close with my parents and will want to take them with me when I move there. (We want to move there together if we do)
My parents will sell the current house we have to fund the move and purchase of new house and I will be willing to put my money toward it by then as well. (With the kind of housing we would want we would have a bit of money to spare) My father is possibly a unskilled worker as he does forklift driving for a living but could potentially get an HGV 3 license. I would be happy to financially support them by then though.
So what do you think? Is this more of a pipe dream or is it something that could actually happen?
My dad and mom are in good health as it stands and have no health issues and neither do I my self. Neither I or my parents have had any criminal records or done anything criminal.

Ok I'll start off your first answer. You pose an interesting question. I know nothing about IT but think it is probably a field in which Canada would want to attract more bright people. Why don't you look at the jobs in demand for trades and see what your parents would qualify for. You have until you turn 18 to come as a family. After that it gets more complicated and could take years if you had to sponsor your parents. Good luck.

Immigration programs change all the time. Currently if your father could drive a truck and had experience doing that, he would be able to get a work permit in BC, AB or SK driving long haul and after several months of working, he could apply for his PNP nomination and once he'd get that, he could call for you and your mother.

As for yourself in 10 years, there's no way of knowing what kind of immigration programs are around then but at the moment, most of them require education, work experience and a job offer.

An adult child can not apply for their parents as well. It is possible that if you get your immigration to Canada and get settled that you could sponsor your parents to join you.

However, all this can change. In 10 years, you may be married, you may have children, your spouse may not be interested in moving and your priorities may be different. The immigration classes of today may have changed by then too.

If you do not plan on getting formal education, you could possibly still immigrate but it may depend on several years of work experience and possibly working for a Canadian or a multinational company where you are, where you might have an option to get transferred to Canada.

Further to Leon's solid advice here is the Alberta site as an example, but all Provinces have slightly different lists and requirements. http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/immigrating/ainp-eds-semi-skilled-criteria.aspx
You sound like a great person and devoted to your family. Have you looked into finishing your schooling through distance education? I think you would find doors open faster with education credentials. Maybe different in the IT field but if you plan to run a business it would be helpful. Completing an English test is also a requirement to get into Canada.

Thanks for your supportive and informative responses!
I totally agree with you from an education standpoint Pippin. I would happily at one point complete an english test if it means entry to Canada. I was thinking maybe if we were to move to Canada it would be either Nova Scotia or Vancouver (two very different places, I know! haha) but not in the thick of Vancouver. I have Vancouver on the list incase that might be needed for jobs and for to make general living easier. I quite like the sound of Nova Scotia though. My family and I aren't the city type and enjoy peaceful countryside (although Vancouver seems to have some beautiful scenery to offer too) so Nova Scotia could be the one. Who knows! Anyway, thanks very much for all of your insights. Its nice to know where I stand if this ever is a possibility (which there could be) as Id love to move to Canada. :)

Ultimately, where you'll live depends on where you get a job :)
