Hello guys! I am a returning student who has been studying in Canada since Fall 2016. My previous study and work permit got expired in July 2020. Currently, these are the exemption conditions for international students:

To be able to enter Canada, you must meet 2 requirements:
  1. You must be travelling for an essential (non-discretionary) purpose.
  2. You must be 1 of the following:
    • an international student with a valid study permit or who was approved for a study permit on or before March 18, 2020
    • travelling directly from the US
I believe, I don't meet the second requirement since I don't hold a valid study permit anymore and the approval date on my new permit would be post March 18th' 2020.

However, I am a coop student and have an internship planned in Fall 2020 term. Below are the conditions for temporary foreign workers:

As a worker, your travel is essential (non-discretionary) if you’re in either of these situations:
  • You have a valid work permit and normally live in Canada.
    • This applies even if you’ve been laid off.
  • You’re a worker who meets all of the following:
    • has a letter of introduction for a work permit (open or employer-specific) --> YES!
    • has a valid job offer --> YES!
    • can work once you enter Canada and complete your 14-day quarantine (unless you’re exempt) --> YES!
I meet all of these conditions. Can I enter Canada as a temporary foreign worker?

The website clearly states that an international student with a valid study permit on or before March 18 is allowed to enter. You held a valid study permit on or before March 18, and continue to do so even after renewing it.
