Hello,

I have just completed my 4 year program at University of Alberta. My study permit expires on March 31. I am applying for my PGWP next week. According to CIC it will take approximately 4-5 months for a decision on my application. Currently am working part time and my work is asking me about my SIN. Because my study permit expires on March 31, my SIN also expires that day. I know I am able to work under assumed status but the company I am working for says that they can't keep me on if my SIN is expired. What do I do?

My situation is:

Study Permit expires: July 31, 2016
PGWP applied: Now

Question: After my study permit is expired and PGWP has not arrived, can I continue working? I heard multiple people on some thread saying we can but on CIC website, it says i can't.

Also, Anyone has an idea how long it is taking currently to process a PGWP applied from Calgary Alberta? I have heard it takes 3 months but currently taking less.

Online applications from in-Canada applicants take about a month whereas paper ones take around 100 days. It doesn't matter which province or city you're based in. Technically, you can't work once your study permit has expired.

That's soon going to change. A lot of people didn't get graduation papers until mid june. I wanted to make sure I had everything I needed so i only applied last week.
