hello guys,

just one question here regarding working while waiting for my PGWP.

As far as I know, I am able to continue to work under my valid study permit after applying for my PGWP.

However, I understand that the study permit becomes invalid 90 days after completing my studies (i also heard that my SIN number also expires when my permit becomes invalid), then my question is here: can I keep working after the study permit is expired as long as I am on the process for my PGWP?

Thanks!

Hi Vivian,

Yes, you can continue working (same job, same conditions) while waiting for your PGWP, even if your study permit expires after 90 days. You will be on implied status (better not to leave Canada while on implied status).

Refer to R186 W: http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/section-186.html

I also found this handout from UBC helpful in addressing employer's concerns: http://students.ubc.ca/sites/students.ubc.ca/files/SP%20to%20PGWP%20transition.pdf

Hope these help!

Hey there,

So I have applied for a PGWP on Nov 12th and I am currently waiting. My extended study permits ends on 31st of Dec and my SIN number was already expired. I didn't bother to renew it cause I didn't work while studying.

I am currently worried cause I got couple of jobs lining up and I am afraid to tell them that I need another 2 months to be able to work. So my question is, Can I start working after my study permit ends while I am on Implied status ? If not can I apply for another study permit extension even though I already applied for my PGWP ?

One last thing, just incase I wanted to start working before 31st of December, will they accept to renew my sin knowing it will expire couple of weeks after ?

Thank you

I am pretty much in the same situation. I hope someone can help.

Thank you!

But on CIC website, it says you can't work in this situation. I was trying to post a link but it is not letting me post link, says im not allowed. Even had to remove your links too. So stupid :/
