Hi ,
I have a question regarding working part time while applying for sickness benefits . I have a medical certificate stating that I am not able to carry full time work hours and can work part time with light duties. I need to know the process that do I need to fully stop working when applying for the sickness benefits or continue working part time while I wait for the 28 day period for the approval of the claim. Will working affect my claim approval ?

Please help.

What kind of sickness benefits?

sickness leave to avail EI sickness benefits.

sickness leave to avail EI sickness benefits.

Don't believe you can work and be on EI sickness. If you are able to work light duties you are expected to work. Getting approved for sickness benefits are far from guaranteed if you are able to still work. Even with a doctors note sickness benefits aren't guaranteed unless it is clear you can't work. I would be talking to your employer about modifying your work duties if necessary.

It’s there on service canada.ca you can work part time on sickness benefits provided it is in accordance with your medical certificate. I would like to know if someone is doing it or have done it .

Thanks. But do you need to stop work while applying it ?

Would not quit unless you know you will be approved unless you can easily get your job back. Also you can go without the income.

You have to get ROE from employer . They should put Code D i.e Illness or injury.
If they put Quit still you will get sickness EI but later they will not grant regular EI due to leaving job without a proper reason.
Currently they are lenient due to Covid 19 and you just need 120 hours to claim sickness EI.

You want to send a copy of that medical certificate to Service Canada . They have up to six years to request documentation supporting your EI sickness claim . If they don’t have it on file , you’ll have to pay pack benefits claimed

If your note says you are able to work part-time as long as it is light duties you are expected to be working with your employer to adjust your work. Your medical note does not say you can't work it says you need so temporary or longterm adjustments. Would keep any documentation negotiating changes in your work schedule and duties with your employer.
