Working on a student visa

Ive been accepted to do a short course just over 6 months in total, this would need a student visa does anyone know if I would be able to work off campus with that visa, the information online seem's very vague about the certainty of it

Side question: If I was to finish this course due to its length I would not be eligible for a PGWP but if I was to then be accepted for another course while I was there would that time be counted in addition to this course to be eligible for a PGWP eg 6 months in this then another 6 month course of another subject.

1. If the institution is on the DLI list then you can work off campus. Fairly simple - what's vague about it?
2. Has to a minimum of 8 months to count, has to a PGWP-eligible DLI institution as well.
