I got admission for September intake at Mohawk College and I have heard about the new rule about working for international students. Can somebody tell me more about it? Am I eligible to work off campus from the first day?

Yes, you can. As of June 1, 2014:

Study permits will automatically authorize the holder to work off-campus for up to 20 hours per week during the academic session and full-time during scheduled breaks without the need to apply for a separate work permit. The study permit holder must be pursuing academic, vocational or professional training of six months or more that leads to a degree, diploma or certificate at a designated institution.

Hey so iv been here since January 2014. Can I too work off campus from June 1 (I wouldn't have completed 6 months study time till then) or does the old 6 month rule apply to my case?? And secondly will new study permits issued after June 1 by default contain an off campus work permission??

Isn't the latest post considered official?

I find it hard to believe they would post something under the "News" section without it being official. It wasn't found in some deep corner of the website after all.

its not spelled out yet .......as of now we r still required to wait for 6 months ...so once its clearly spelled out who is eligible and who is effected it not wise to assume. It is said that it will be official from june. for now its still proposed change.
