Hi

I know this question has been discussed here many times. Actually my question is regarding a friend of mine. She had the same confusion as I had regarding scheduled break, i.e: Is it the last day of our exam or university scheduled break. This whole confusion was because Service Canada said that it is your last day of exam, which is not true.

She worked for 34 hours per week for just one week when she was not supposed to. Also when she received her payroll, it was 74 hours for two weeks (by working 40 hrs per week during schedule break and 34 hrs per week during not schedule break but she thought that it is). She usually work for around 16-17 hours per week not even 20.

Is it really a big problem? because if CIC will check her history they can see that she usually just work 16-17 hrs per week. What are the chances of CIC knowing and will she be in trouble just because she accidentally worked for more than limited hour for just one week and is there anything she can do to fix it.

Kindly reply if you know someone who had similar issue

Scheduled break is according to what academic calendar your institution runs. You should be able to find that on their website.

Why isn't she asking herself?

It might seems quite a small thing and perhaps no one will even bother to look at it. BUT once you get in trouble even for a small violation, you might regret it forever.

The scheduled break are not that clear on academic calendars. Usually they write last day of exam, first day of classes. But what if your exams finish 5 days before everyone else's exams. Plus, if anyone is asking Service Canada about it, they should say ask CIC or your university but instead they say that. Instead they are saying that yes you can work full time as soon as your exams are finished, which is an incorrect information. Service Canada is an important organization they should be careful. You are right that we can double check as I did double check before joining any job but not everyone doubt Service Canada.
I asked because I like to keep 100 percent information regarding these matters before I or someone really closed to me even accidentally do this sort of mistake. Curiosity :)

@J5M: Thanks for your reply. I always appreciate your replies they are very straight forward and informative. Its been few months and already done. If you look at hours per year. She is way under 20 per week on average.

Academic calendars has nothing to do with a program calendar. My college has scheduled exam week at end of each semester. I may not have exams but that doesn't mean my semester ended a week early. The academic calendar posts when a semester starts, when it ends, when reading week is, etc.
