Hi All,

I have recently received my Canadian Immigration under Federal Skilled Workers program and I mentioned Toronto, Ontario as the intended place to land.

I have been offered a job in Montreal, Quebec. I know that I cannot directly land in Quebec so I'm planning to land in Toronto and followed by going to Quebec however I do not know the complications involved in the job process whether I can work for a company in Quebec even if I'm a landed immigrant under the Federal program.

Are there any pre-requisites I need to follow. How about the Health Care coverage etc.

Would appreciate your comments.

Thanks.

You need to land in not-Quebec and give a not-Quebec address to get your PR. Do you have friends or relatives whose address you can use? You can also apply for a SIN number right after you land, it's pretty fast to get. You can use the same address for your SIN card to be sent to. You will not get health care right away anyway so it doesn't really matter if you apply for it or not. Once you have your SIN number, go to Quebec and start your job. Apply for health care after 3 months.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yes I do have friends/relatives in Toronto area. As per your suggestion, I'll apply for SIN as soon as I land in Toronto.

I have been told that in order to qualify for the Quebec Health Care I need to have a provincial health insurance from some other province like Ontario. Is this claim true? I do know that even for Quebec I will require to wait for 3 months for health care benefits to become active.

I'll appreciate the response.

It is possible that Quebec health is linked to their immigration and that you can not get Quebec health unless you went through Quebec immigration or have health care from another province. This seems unlikely to me but you can email Quebec health and ask about it. You can find them here: http://www.ramq.gouv.qc.ca/index_en.shtml

If that is the case, you can see about applying for OHIP once you have landed. They will mail the OHIP card after 3 months and you can then use it to get Quebec health.
