Hi. I hope someone can help...

My Working holiday VISA expires soonish,
my employer has submitted an LMO app for me,

CIC rep says to submit a work permit application regardless of the fact the site says concurrent processing is a thing of the past (im going to end up on implied status by the sounds of LMO and Work permit processing times it would seem) so...

I am going to go ahead and submit the application but am wondering if im supposed to be applying for an extension (im told Working holiday visas aren't extendable) or an inital permit. (i believe the forms are different)

any takers?

:)

p.s What kind of proof/indication/validation does one receive to say they are on implied status?

Many thanks!

This forum and its many repliers should be proud and greatly thanked for the help they are giving people!

Hi,

I spoke the a CIC representative today and asked the same question. According to her you should be submitting an application extension for the work permit. Her explanation was that even through the working holiday visa is not extendable you are technically applying for an extension to a work permit that you already have in your possession.

She seemed like she knew what she was talking about as I had a few other questions that she answered very well. To be on the safe side though I will phone again and verify with another rep just before I post my application.

In terms of the implied status you won't have any proof sent to you to indicate that you have this status. I guess all you can do is perhaps call the CIC and get them to confirm that they have received your application and maybe an email from them explaining how implied status works so you can show it to your employer.

Hope this helps.

Implied status is not a thing of the past if you apply in Vegreville AND the LMO has already been submitted with a file number issued. Don't submit both the LMO and WP ext app at the same time. You must show proof with the WP app that the LMO has been submitted. Use the confirmation of receipt letter HRSDC sends to the employer.

You are not really applying for an extension but a "change of conditions". However, it's done using the same form. Make sure you send the WP app to Vegreville and it is received BEFORE your current WP expires. That is the only way you will be on implied status. And send it using a trackable method such as registered mail or by courier. That is your proof.
