Hi guys,

I have been working for a company in Canada for the past 6 years, I live in India though, and i get paid through paypal. the job started as a freelance thing but soon turned permanent and right now i handle their entire IT infrastructure.

Obviously in these years the company has grew a lot and it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage and maintain their infrastructure remotely which is why the company is interested in bringing me over to Canada to work with them.

Now what would be the procedure for me? Work Permit? Visa?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Aasim

You'll need to apply for a closed work permit. To qualify for a closed work permit, the company will first have to give you a full time job offer and also obtain an approved LMIA.

Are you sure about that? I am already working for the company for the past 6 years... I am already an employee.

Working remotely for a Canadian company doesn't give you any extra right to come to Canada and work. You, and the company, will need to follow the same rules as everyone else.

In order to get an LMIA, the company will need to meet strict requirements and show that they couldn't find a Canadian citizen or PR for the job. The LMIA fee is $1000. If the LMIA is approved, you can then apply for a work permit.
