I am a full-time international student in Canada I took a leave of absence in winter(FOR 120 DAYS) from college due to financial issues. So, can I or am I allowed to work full time 40 hours? If not full time then can I work part-time while I am on break?
I'm studying Meng, Internetworking at Dalhousie University.

You cannot work while on a leave of absence.

You can’t work on or off campus during an authorized leave from your study program, even if your study permit says you’re allowed to work in Canada.

No you cannot work. If you have financial issues and cannot afford to study then you may want to return home to work so you can make money.

If you meet the requirements, then one option you could look into is applying for a destitute student work permit. However you cannot start working until the work permit is approved. You must stop working as soon as you stop attending school.

Here are the work permit details: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/foreign-workers/humanitarian-reasons-r208.html

My leave starts January1,2024 so I can work till december31. Can you tell me how can I apply for it?
If I apply for the destitute work permit how long will it take to process? Can I get it for 4 months?

That's right. You will need to stop working as of Jan 1, 2024.

See the link I provided above on how to apply. I don't know how long processing will take.

The length of the work permit is only for the length of the semester, and you cannot work until approved. Processing may take a while because your documentation will have to be verified. What year are you in? How will you complete your studies if you cannot afford it and not in your last year? Are you on an official leave from the school as this may impact your PGWP following completion of your Masters?

My official leave of absence for personal reason is send to the faculty admin for approval and it will be approved as my course coordinator already assured. I actually took loan in my home country to afford my studies but my mom got sick and due to the medical bills the loan assurance properties are utilized and I'm unable to pay for the next 8 months. So I currently need a job to afford my studies for the semester after my break

You cannot continue working past December without an approved destitute work permit. I would recommend you apply as soon as possible since the holidays are coming up and processing will likely slow down. Make sure you do not work illegally.

See the link I provided above for details on how to apply. You will have to show you meet the following to be approved.

Evidence of circumstances outside of their control or the control of their financial sponsor
In addition to providing evidence that they are temporarily destitute, the study permit holder should also provide evidence that the loss of financial support was outside of their control or the control of their financial sponsor.

Each case should be considered on its own merit. Some cases will be self-evident, such as cases of war, upheaval or the collapse of the banking system in their home country, while others will require further explanation by the applicant, usually at an interview with an immigration officer.

Processing may take as long as applying for a work permit which is 130 days. Get all your documentation together and apply ASAP.

If you leave starts January 1st I believe you actually need to stop working when this semester ends because you know you won’t be studying next semester so it isn’t really a scheduled break. You can keep working when you know you will be a full-time student the next semester or part-time student if is your last semester.
