Hi all,
Ive been struggling to find info on this so hopefully someone can help me here!

Im an Australian in Canada on a Working Holiday Visa which will expire at the start of April 2015
I have applied for permanent residence from within Canada: Spouse or common-law partner in Canada class and got an email from CIC saying they received my application 20th May 2014.
They application guides says 'As a general practice, we will advise applicants in writing when they are eligible to apply for a work or study permit.
However, if an applicant already holds a work or study permit and wants to maintain his or her temporary resident status, the applicant may apply to extend his or her status before receiving our letter'.
Ive tried a few times to fill out the questionnaire to figure out the next step but it says 'something has gone wrong site is down' etc..

Ive read that you get an open work permit once stage 1 of the application has been processed, which as of today is 17months, but will I be able to continue working once my current work visa expires?

thanks for your help
Im planning on calling the call center in tomorrow but any info will be useful

You can actually apply for an OWP NOW. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/updates/2014/2014-12-22.asp . No need to wait for stage 1 approval any longer.

If you already submitted OWP app with your inland app, then don't worry and you should be getting your OWP any day now over next couple months.

If you didn't yet apply for OWP, then get your app in asap!

No - you can't.

Bridging Open Work Permits are only available to those who have applied for PR through an economic class (e.g. Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class). They are not available to those being sponsored through Family Class.

Thank you for the info
