You can either do it at the airport or later. There's no deadline. However waiting too long may weaken your asylum application.

Am presently a holder of a two years working permit still to enter Canad,i will like to know for how many years maximum am I allowed to stay in Canada with the work permit if I decide to renew my permit when it expires?
