My husband is sponsoring me and while my paperwork is in process, I will be staying there until it is done. However, I have no idea how to go about a work permit. Can I apply for one and how? Any advice is appreciated!

Need more information. Where are you living? Are you applying outland or inland? If outland, the only way to get a work permit is the hard way, with a company willing to go though the LMIA process. If you are under 30 and attended school within the last 12 months, you could consider a working holiday program. If you are applying inland, you can apply for an OWP which takes about 4 months to get, but you have to be legally in Canada (aka in-status). I am not sure about that process but someone else here can answer if that is relevant to you.

It looks like you applied outland. If so - there is no work permit granted as part of this process.

My apologies! Scylla was correct, I did apply Outland. Thank you so much for your info :)

Yep, Outland. So I can't work until my application is approved?

Yes - you will have to wait until your application is approved AND you have "landed" (meaning crossed the border and activated your PR visa). If you want to work earlier, you'd need to find an employer in Canada willing to offer you a full time job and would likely need an approved LMIA from that employer as well (unless your occupation qualifies under NAFTA). Finding an employer as a foreign worker is unfortunately typically quite difficult.
