I have got the temporary resident Visa for Canada. I am an Indian Citizen and want to work in Canada. Can anybody tell me the process to get the work permit?
Can I get it on the airport itself or need to apply separately? And what is the time required to get the same?

1. You have to find an employer, the employer has to advertise the job on the job bank for 2 weeks, and then applies to HRSDC for a Labour Market Opinion and has to prove no PRs/Canadians qualified/available for the job and that you are qualified. If approved, then you can apply for a work permit at a port of entry. Processing time, depends on the province, somewhere between 8 and 20 weeks.

If you have an open work permit then you don't need an LMO. However people only qualify for open work permits in specific situations (e.g. you have been sponsored for PR by your Canadian spouse using the inland application process and your application has recieved first stage approval, your spouse is in Canada on a closed work permit in a skilled profession).

An LMO gives an employer permission to hire a foreign worker. Once the LMO has been approved, the employee can apply for a closed work permit.

Can you tell me the process to get the open work permit and how is the job market in Canada for IT? What can I do to get the job as early as possible? Do i need to search via consultants or job portals?

Should i take a TRV first and then file for OWP there in Canada?
Or should i file for OWP from here?

I am working here, earn well and have good ties here (family and all).
