Work Permit status

I attended the Canadian consulate New Delhi in 2000. They issued a paper saying "Await contact from this office" instead of the work permit.I could not get any update from them.

But, now I am willing to know the status of the same as I wish to apply for the VISA to USA.

Please share the ideas on getting the status of the same.

Ideas would be appreciated!
