Work Permit restrictions

Hi. I'm hoping someone here will be able to help. I arrived in Canada from the UK a couple of months ago and have a two year work permit. I haven't needed to work as my husband has a good job here but am now getting bored and want to find myself a job. My work permit restricts me from working in 'health care fields'. Does anyone know exactly what jobs this covers? Obviously doctors and nurses etc would be classed as working in the healthcare field but what about other jobs within healthcare such as admin etc? The reason I ask is that I am a qualified pharmacy technician/dispensing assistant and there seem to be lots of vacancies around for these here in BC which I would like to apply for but I'm not sure whether I can or not because of the healthcare field restriction. Similarly I also have experience working in medical offices as a secretary and receptionist. Can I do that here in Canada with this 'healthcare fields' restriction?

I have tried calling the number on the back of my work permit but you get through to an automated system and none of the options given are relevant to my query. I have tried googling it too but have come up with nothing. Fingers crossed someone here can shed some light!!

What about going to a Service Canada office in person. When I have gone there for various reasons I have been served in less than half an hour. Good luck.

Yes Its true you cant work as a nurse or in pharmacy etc,cus the diploma you have is not adequate according to the level of canada.
if you want to work in your respestive area then you have to enter a university accordingly.
But i think you can work temporary any where else or in a fast food center .there are lots of vacancy for part time jobs .also no need to have experience.
same time enroll your self in university .
Best of luck.

You can't work not because your diploma or education is not equivalent. You can work as an assistant since it's not a regulated profession. However you need to clear a medical exam with DMP. you need to notify CIC of your intent and CIC may require you to submit a new work permit application. Other field where restriction apply is working with children ie. in a day care or school as you may pose as a threat since you didn't undergo a medical exam.
