I recently moved back to Canada with my family from the states. I am Canadian and my husband is American. We are working on a spousal sponsorship but he has been given a really good job offer. Is there anyway that he can get a work permit while we finish the paperwork and once it's done will he have to leave or lose his job? There is so much info out there it gets really confusing, so I would really appreciate any help. Thank you ???

Unless you fall under NAFTA, your employer will have to apply for a Labour Market Opinion first (and be approved) in order to hire you. More information on LMOs is here:

If the employer applies for an LMO and it's approved, you would then apply for a work permit. Once the work permit is approved, you can start working.

If you are eventually approved for a work permit, applying for PR will have no impact on your ability to work.

FYI - as an American you really should be applying outland (even if you're here in Canada). WAY faster.

There is no stage one in outland applications. Presently it is 54 days at Mississauga for Sponsor approval/refusal and 11 months for 80% of spousal applications at Buffalo.dlbeast said:how long is the outland process taking to reach stage one?

I have over 10 years managerial experience in Grocery Stores. They really like me and are fitting me into this role.
If they searched hard enough i would say with full honestly a Canadian could fill this role. I dont think id get approved...but maybe im wrong.
