Work permit getting close to expiry, but still waiting for AOR

My work permit is getting really close to expiry, but I haven't received AOR yet.
If my work permit does expire but I still don't have AOR to apply for BOWP, what can I do?
Should I leave Canada until I receive AOR and apply for BOWP from outside Canada then?
(Is AOR normally sent via e-mail?)

You cannot apply for BOWP after your work permit has expired. Apply via paper a few days before your work permit expiry with a cover letter explaining you are waiting for your AOR and include your UCI for them to look you up.

Apply a couple of days before your work permit expires via paper. That'll give you 80 days to get your AOR which should be enough. If your work permit expires and you haven't applied for a new one before that, you'll lose your worker status and you won't be able to apply for the open work permit.

Hi everyone

Im in a similar situation as shbae14. My CEC application was received Nov 10th 2014 and my work permit is about to expire: Jan 19th 2015. I'm freaking out when I see the processing time for AOR (about 4 months) . Anyhow I have no choice I'm gonna send my BOWP application right before the expiration. But you were saying it takes 80 days? I'm lost because it seems like ther are 2 different types, WP with new employer (53 days) and WP with same employer (80 days)... I'm trying to find a way to delay the process and gain time to the maximum to get my AOR before they review my WP application. It's gonna be very tricky because they change processing times all the time. Any suggestion? thanks

When I apply for BOWP via paper two days before my work permit expires. Do I just add my UCI and current work permit where I need to attach my AOR number?

Just follow the application package and add a note at the end saying something like you are waiting for AOR and please check your UCI number or give you a call.

That worked for a couple of people here.
