work permit for person with permanent position

hi guys,
i was just wondering, i have a permanent job as a nurse in alberta. my work permit expires on august and i've heard that a number of nurses have already been denied renewal of work permit by the immigration people eventhough they already have permanent positions in their respective hospitals. is it possible for us to appeal such decision? we thought that once you have a permanent position, your work permit would surely get renewed....

If you have a permanent position, why not apply for permanent residence ?

yes, i already applied for it but unfortunately, my work permit expires this august. now, they're telling us that our only option is to apply for ainp but that takes 10 months so i may not be here anymore.

a "temporary work permit" is exactly that - temporary, so the fact that you have a permanent job offer will not be of help for a TWP. It is of course a great help for the PR. So, just curious, which program did you apply for, and when?

And can you clarify what you mean by "your only option is to apply for ainp" ?

i already applied for FSW but i haven't heard anything about it yet. since FSW will take sometime, AINP will be our next course, they say it takes about 6-10 months so if by any chance we could get it by 6months then we get to stay but if it would take 10 months then we would be long gone by then

I ask about the PR application because you qualify for SW2, which seems to get processed relatively quickly. Also, if you have already been working 2 yrs, you would qualify for the CEC program (I suspect you already know that), which gets priority processing.

Can't comment on AINP, I'm in Ontario, and their PNP process takes longer than the FSW application...

actually, i have no idea what a CEC is.... can you tell me more about it? i'm really desperate about my situation

CEC = Canadian Experience Class, a different class of skilled worker application for PR:

I gather now that one of the benefits of going through a provincial program is a TWP on the way to getting PR, is that right?

yes. thank u so much for d info but one of the requirements for cec is for me to have lived here for 2 yrs already. ill have my 2 years at the same time my work permit expires....
