Work permit extension

Hello All!

I had applied online for a work permit extension in July end . My previous permit expired end of August. Current wait time is about 124 days (Came down from 154 recently! :) . So I am still waiting for the approval. But my employer now wants me to go to the border and get it. They think that it will be faster. However, they are not sure if I will receive both my work permit & temporary resident visa (TRV) at the border. The other thing is that I have booked my tickets for a vacation outside Canada (Not to U.S) in mid December. It would be great if I can get my visa and permit approved before I leave. I do not want to go through changing all my tickets. However, since there is less time now I was wondering if anyone knew how it works at the border for getting the permit approved and also getting a TRV stamped. All helpful answers are appreciated.

We need more information. What kind of work permit did you apply to? A NAFTA permit? The fact you already applied online awhile back and now you want to lodge a new application at the border makes me a little nervous about your chances at getting it.

Also, I'm amazed at how high those processing times have risen!!!! I got mine in around 40 days or so (the website said they were processing at 50) back in May.

If you are from visa exempt country then it might work , but if you are from a country which needs visa to enter canada then you have to wait for WP approval and then you can apply for TRV.

You've misunderstood how flagpoling works. In order to obtain a work permit at the border, you must leave Canada and then re-enter. So you will in fact be leaving Canada. For this reason you can only flagpole if you have a valid multiple entry TRV. If your TRV is single entry, you can't.

Do you have a valid multiple entry TRV?

Thank you for the replies. I will need a TRV. I am an Indian citizen. And I also heard, as one of you said, that I will have to wait to get my work permit before I can apply for a TRV and well the CIC website also confirms that information.

The new issue I have now is I have made travel plans for Dec 15 long ago (International - to India), thinking that if I applied in July end, I will definitely have both TRV and work permit in hand before I leave. This I am no longer sure of. Is there is a way I can apply from India for TRV or perhaps even request the work permit to sent there in case the wait time is longer for any reason (the latter is too much to ask perhaps) ?
I would consider that option because even if I receive my permit on 1 dec example (given the current wait time), I am not sure I would receive my TRV within 15 days before I leave.

TRV can be applied from any VO in the world based on approved work permit but if you are planning to leave Canada before your WP gets approved then its a kinda risk,while you have made app inside Canada im not sure if you are able to change your address in order to recieve your WP. I would suggest once your WP is approved apply for TRV right away and if ts urgent to leave then leave and when you get a confirmation in your MYCIC inbox about TRV approval by showing that confirmation in any other VO you might get your TRV pasted in pp possibly if that works then perfect otherwise you have another option of applying TRV from outside CAnada based on Approved W P. Good luck ....hopefully your WP approves soon....

I'm on the same status. I'm waiting for my PGWP extension. I sent my documents by mail on September 1st, but my current WP will be expired on January 2016. Do you guys think that my documents will be proceed for a long period of time?
I checked on the cic processing time that they are now processing July's papers..

I came in Canada one year ago with my first company ,about 4 months ago I applied on line i got my work permit for new company, but my future employer slow down with the business right now and he told me that i need to wait , My question is because my first work permit is valid until may , and i got another one 3 days ago , can i continue to work with my company until the other one call me for work and when will be active my new one work permit , because i need to go to Vancouver to emigration consultant to pick it up.

I applied WP Extension on July 15. Still no update. Called Call Center and they say maximum it will take till Mar 2016.
Did anybody in July got their WO extension approved ?

Hello! I just submitted my application for my work permit extension. When I reviewed my papers, I found out that I ticked "NO" on personal details question 2(alias/nickname). I am married and my married name is the one that I am using and it's the same with my passport but I wasn't able to indicate my birth name since I answered no in the question which is supposed to be yes... I have included my birth/maiden name in my initial application as caregiver here in Canada and I am worried since they have acquired my records and my application for extension now doesn't have the same information with my initial application. Will this affect my application? What should I do? Please help...

Hi everyone, I got almost the same problem. My PGWP is expiring in Oct 2016 and want to extend for my wife spousal Work visa so she wont be reject on a grounds that I only have work-permit till oct 2016. On my PGWP it says on the comment or Notes: issued to passport validity. I was eligible for 3 years but there is nothing extra on comment says that I can get the further balance. Can anyone help me please urgent
