Work Permit Extension at Border

Hello,
I'm seeking your urgent assistance please help!

I need to travel to Saudi Arabia for two months and return to Canada. I have a valid open work permit due to expire by the end of August, applied for an extension to my work permit with my husband's study permit but it's still under processing. The TRV is also processing for almost 2 months now!!

I need to travel for my only sister's wedding and I don't know how as the Saudi embassy requires at least 6 months validation on my permit. So I thought of flagpoling.


- Could you please explain the process of flagpoling at border in detail? I read on the internet but articles were from 2022 and before.
- Which border shall I go to? I live in Kelowna BC.
- What documents needed for this process?
- if I traveled, can I return to Canada while the extension is under process and current permit expired? I read they would let me in as a visitor instead, or let me apply for a new work permit if my extension hasn't received a decision yet.

Your OWP will be based on your spouse’s study permit so that would need to be approved first. You will need a valid TRV to enter Canada.

You need a valid TRV to return to Canada. You can certainly leave Canada without a valid TRV. However in order to return, you will need to wait for the TRV to be approved. If it is not approved before you leave Canada, then you can wait outside of Canada for it to be approved and have it stamped in your passport from outside of Canada.

I'm still waiting for my TRV, it's been almost 2 months now.
Both extensions, my OWP and my husband's study permit are still under process but we have valid permits now till August 31.
