Work permit expiring and need to apply for visitor visa ???Help plz

I am residing in Canada and my work permit is expiring.Can I apply for visitor visa to stay in Canada while my PR is in process??Where can I find forms ??? Do I have to apply in Canada or send an apllication in Buffalo??? Do I have to send my passport ??Plz help...

Simle26 is in Canada as a worker and should be using this link: www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp which is for temporary residents who are already in Canada and wish to: •extend their stay; •change the conditions of their stay; •change their type of temporary status; or •correct problems with their status.

That's for a temporary resident visa(TRV) which you need to renew your work permit to apply and is different from a visitor visa. The correct link to use is www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp and you check "A" (extension of temporary resident status as a visitor) and for question 9D, you would select "extend my stay in Canada until ____" and also "change conditions" then give reasons.

Firstly I came in Canada on study permit and after graduating got PGWP and now that is expiring.

So using the above link I will be changing my status from worker to visitor and stay in Canada...and can only work till the expiry of my work permit.I dont have to send my passport...just fill in the forms and send it to Vegreville.

Just not sure about the Document checklist...which one to pick IMM5556 or IMM5558 ??Plz help !!

You don't have to send your passport; only when you want to reapply for a TRV which I don't think it's what you want as the TRV would be co-terminus with your WP and the visa is to be applied for at a visa office outside Canada. You want to stay as a visitor then Imm 5558.

Well I can extend my stay in Canada by applying for visitor visa. Work till the expiry of my work permit which is end of May 2012.I have applied for CEC class with my husband who is in India.My parents will be bringing his passport from India to Canada.When I am asked for my passport I can the send mine and my husbands passport to be stamped in Buffalo. After the passports are stamped I want to go back to India with my husbands passport and come to Canada with him.

My question is after getting visitor visa can I go back and forth to India till the expiry of visitor visa or I have to apply for TRV In Buffalo for re-entering Canada.???

If your plan is to be able to exit and re-enter Canada, then do not extend your stay as a visitor (thru Vegreville). You will have to apply for a TRV-visitor to a visa office outside Canada. You may have a better chance at applying from your home country. If staying on in Canada after the expiry of your WP then CPC-V would be the place to apply but if you exited Canada without a valid TRV you won't be allowed entry even if your VR is still valid except when you exited only to the US and St Pierre et Miguelon.

You can try and apply from Buffalo but a slim probability at being granted one.

But after I pay the right of landing fees and receive passports stamped from Buffalo...can I leave Canada and come back when on visitor visa..that will also complete the crossing border requirement ???

Sorry didn't get this. Do you already have your PR approved and visa stamped on your passport?
