We have just been informed by CIC that we have no recourse, she is illegal in the country and that's that. We must restore status (IF, and it sounded like a bit IF) they permit that. Good luck, they'll probably screw it up again. Looks like we'll be job-hunting abroad, after wasting months of time and thousands of dollars. CIC - ruining people's lives since 1867.

yes that's what bureaucracy and stupid useless papers do to society and people'

Oh, that's just the beginning. The biggest problem is that there's nobody to go to when screw-ups like this happen! The Canadian government needs to appoint an advocate for Immigration . . . but it would have to be a whole department of advocates with as many screw ups as this bureaucracy manages to create. As matthewc implied, the Call Centre agents are, for the most part, useless. I don't know what's happened in the past few months in this case but going to the MP would have been this person's best course of action. Get someone at the MP's office to start making noise with the right connections and sometimes you can get somewhere. I hope it worked out okay, in the end. cdarroch - are you out there?

Hi there!

Well, as far as we can tell, everything's OK - they located the PR app, and it's in process and on schedule... apparently, though, it's not possible to overturn the previous OWP decision, which they tell me may reflect on the PR app itself... but, we sent a letter of explanation, so hopefully no troubles. Looks like we'll just have to pay the $150 again once she gets AIP.

We had a simar experience our paperwork was messed up and we went on a day trip into the states (cic told us it was fine) due to missing paperwork they wouldn't let me back in. So I stayed with a friend in the US whilst we contacted our local MP and the minister for immigration. Eventually the ministers secretary contacted us and it all got fixed. Don't take their word for it if you paid and sent the app the correct way there's still an obligation on there part to provide a standard of service. Once you sign the forms technically as it was explained to me you do enter a sort of a legal contract between you and them. If you sent a complete app with the right payment. It's their duty to process it. Don't waste your time with the cic call centre. Mp is the way to get a fast result they will kick some ass it's what they get elected for
