Work permit confusion

Hi all,

I am writing on behalf of my friend.

His spouse had study permit for 2 years and he had dependent work permit for 2 years.
But once she got study permit, she opt to do 1 year course and completed her studies.
Now she is planning to apply for PGWP.
So do her spouse who is on dependent workpermit also has to apply for new permit (his permit is valid upto 2018)?
Because when he called CIC call agents 3 times. He got same answer.
Like spouse doesn't need to apply for new wp. He can use old wp till it is valid.


But confusion is, Isn't depedent WP should also be valid up to study permit ?
If she get new PGWP, he can still use WP which was issued to him based on his spousal study permit ?

The permit he holds will remain valid until it expires.

ok let me make this clear first, there is no such thing as dependent WP.

What he has is an open WP, which he got because he applied as a dependent of his wife. Once you know understand this you will realize that his WP should be treated as any other open WP and it's not tied with any other permit's start or end date. so Whatever Date your friend has on his WP, that is his WP's end date. Regardless of his spouse gets a new study permit or work permit or he gets a new spouse doesn't matter.

I for got yo mention at bottom of his dependent workpermit there is remark which states:

"Accompanying spouse on study permit and it is valid up to same date."

So i guess it means, his dependent work permit should be valid till her study permit ?

As already stated, the permit remains valid.
