work permit cancellation query

Dear Group,

I got a query regarding study permit processing. I'm on a temporary WP in canada & planning to apply for study permit. Does my WP gets cancelled when study permit is issued?

When I called cic, they said, it wouldn't be cancelled, rather a new study permit would be issued while get having the work permit? Guys, Do you have any idea about this?

If the study permit is approved - this will automatically cancel your work permit.

Let's say I submit an inland application for study permit for term winter 2013, staring in jan'13. If it gets approved in October, does the WP goes invalid by October? Or it's going to valid till Jan'13?
