Hi.
My wife and I had valid open work permits under the IEC (International Experience Canada) program until Oct 30, 2017.
She applied for a study permit over 30 days before her work permit expired indicating that she was going to start studying on Oct 23, but she got her study permit on Nov 3. The study permit is valid from Oct 25 but she'll start studying on Nov 13. The institution where she's going to study will let the government know that she's starting on Nov 13.
I've also applied for my new open work permit before my old one expired, along with her study permit application. I'm awaiting an answer. I consider myself under implied status until I get an answer since I've applied for a work permit under the same category: open work permit.
I'm not sure if I can keep working or if I should stop and resume the day that she's actually going to start studying, which is Nov 13. I can't find a written rule that says that I can / can't work.
Has anyone gone through the same scenario? Can I continue to work?
Our immigration lawyer says I can, but also said that my wife was able to work until she got her new permit, which is not true because she applied under a different category. BTW she stopped working on Oct 30.
Thanks!
