Work Permit Apply Process

Hi,

I'm seeking a job in BC but when I apply, The usual question I get asked are you eligible to work in Canada? I reply no because I don't have work permit the application gets rejected.

So my question is can I apply for work permit even though I don't have a job arranged? So when I apply for jobs online, I can answer yes I'm eligible to work in Canada. If so, how long is the process to wait for work permit and how long does the work permit last?

Good morning Jassie,

You cannot apply for a work permit without a LMO. When the employer asks if you're eligible to work, it usually means that they are not interested in going through the LMO process and want people who can start right away. My advice to you is to keep on applying, but in your application let them know that you require such. The work permit with the LMO usually is valid for two years.
