Hi,

I got a job offer from an international company based on Toronto back in August, I already accepted the offer and signed the contract. The company applied for a non LMIA work permit around mid august and its still processing until today. While the lawyers are claiming to be on top of things, they are saying this delay is out of their control. Is such a significant delay 'normal'? Is there anything at all that I can do about it? could this indicate a coming rejection for my work permit? I'm basically jobless and waiting on that permit now, any advice or tips are greatly appreciated.

Note: average processing time for my country of origin is 9 weeks, I'm currently living in the U.S.

Thanks!

i worked as a immigration consultant for 4 years, since the start of express entry program ,it has become very difficult for a foreign worker to get LMIA, ,its better you start working , best of luck

Thanks Hafeez, my company is applying for a NON LMIA work permit. My understanding is that this should be a very easy process. Any thoughts?

is your lawyer a member of canadian immigration council or he is just a consultant who is claiming to have contact with big company

Not necessarily easy. Sometime this can take longer since CIC wants to confirm you do in fact meet the criteria for bypassing the LMIA. On what basis do you qualify for a non-LMIA work permit? Are you an American citizen coming to Canada to work in an occupation that falls on the NAFTA list? Or something else?

Just to add - the processing time you see on the CIC web site is really for LMIA supported work permits. Won't apply to your case.

Thank you for your response Scylla, I'm relocating with the same company from a US based office to Toronto. However, I had to resign from my US job due to visa work restrictions, so at this point I'm just waiting the approval on my work permit application. As for the basis on a non LMIA permit its 'Reciprocal employment'. Any thoughts?

1. As you are no longer an employee of the parent company, I can't see how an ICT work permit would be approved.
