Did you also ask them what actions do we need to take if the processing time is exceeded?
Sharing for reference, one of my colleagues filed her inland work permit extension on Feb 28th and received her approval last Friday. Hope this helps.
they told me to wait haha. the agent said she put the note there (on July 4) to inform the responsible officer that my application has passed processing time. and now it's Aug 18 I haven't received anything
I filed my WP extension application in 1st week of March and the processing has exceeded 164 days. I called IRCC and they said they have already communicated the same to CPC Edmonton and are awaiting their response. No idea how much longer its going to take 
I did the same. so I called on July 4 and agent put a note to CPC Edmonton. then July 20 CPC Edmonton replied that they were aware of the processing time and would take a look. So sad. Did you get a reply from CPC Edmonton directly ? I was just sent an email by the IRCC Customer Representative that states I could continue working past the expiry date on my WP-EXT letter as my application was still in process.
I called agent ircc again on aug and they told me CPC Edmonton put a note haha. I didn't get direct response. just calling ircc to get updates

they can help you for knowing latest update status on your application. but for speed up, I don't think they can help with. they just told me to wait all the timeHow could you call the IRCC? I tried to call them and after I selected all the options, they said they were not able to transfer me to an agent and asked me to call later (didnt even ask me to wait). omgI'm not sure
I call at 8 pm in the morning haha when they just open. so at 00:45 (second of the call) press 1 and enter your UCI then 1 to confirm your input is correct. then wait for 5 sec, press 3 - wait 5 sec - press 1 - wait 5 sec - press 2 - wait 5 sec- press 0
You dont have to wait for IRCC to hear all of the options.
best time to call is right at 8 am you press 0 to speak to an agent.
other time is from 8-9am or 10-11am.
one more note, if you are successful and your call gets transferred to an agent, they will give you an option to leave your phone number and they will call you back. choose that option because if you decide to continue waiting in the call, at some point it may cut off (since wait time is too long)
No, I didnt have any options, they just cut me off after I press everything. (I wish I have the waiting time , so sad)
