Hi,

I am working for a Canadian employer who also has a branch in the US. I was sent to US 6 months back and I am in US right now on L1 visa. I did not leave US since then. My Canadian work permit and work visa expired on Aug 29 2014. My company did apply for extension of my Canadian work permit (bridging work permit) on June 23rd but I am still waiting for it.

So as of today, I know I cannot enter Canada. As soon as I am issued a new work permit, my company's HR will send it to my US address. Questions is:
Once I get the renewed work permit, can I enter Canada without renewing my Work Visa?

Thanks,
Prateek

Hi prateek,

This might help

best option is to contact the immigration call center and get more information.

Thanks. I have read this link.
My case is peculiar as my work permit is getting expired and renewed while I am in US. I think calling immigration department is a good idea. I was looking to see if someone has encountered such scenario in the past.

Thanks,

I don't think it should matter when it was issued - if you have a valid work permit, it's valid and it should be enough to get back into Canada (providing you satisfy the officer at the border and meet all other requirements, etc.)

You don't need to renew your Visa if you were ONLY in the States. You can't have left the States at all, if you have, you'll have to apply for a new Visa. But I can see from your post that you didn't leave the States, so I think you'll be good.
