Work Permit and Traveling

Hi all,
I applied for my spouse to get her PR last October 2021 and we just completed the medical exam which was evaluated as passed last month.

My question is, does anyone know when we are supposed to get the work permit? Is there anywhere I can check the status of it or is it the normal IRCC website portal to check it? My wife is very keen on working and is getting a lot of requets via LinkedIn but unfortunately we need to deny them as we don't have the work permit.

Does anyone know what we can do speed things up?

Secondly, are we really stuck not being able to leave the country while we wait for the PR card? What happens if we want to travel to another country or she needs to go back to her home country - if we have to wait for them to get things sorted out, we might be waiting for ages.

Thank you in advance for all the help and advice

To the best of my knowledge, work permits are taking 8+ months these days. There is nowhere to check status of the WP. There is no way to speed this up.

No, you are not stuck in Canada while waiting for the PR card. You have two options. The first is to apply for a PR Travel Document once you are outside of Canada to be able to fly back. The second is to fly to the US and then re-enter Canada through a land border using a private vehicle.

Just to add one more comment... If your spouse has employers who are very willing to hire her, then another option would be to see if they are willing to go through the LMIA process. If the employer can get an approved LMIA, she can then apply for a closed work permit independent of the spousal sponsorship application.

Thank you for your answers.

A lot of them are not willing to do that, I don't think.

Wow, 8 months. That's painful :(

There is a shortage of labor right now and yet, the people who want to work can't....such is life :(
