Hi,

As title suggests, I am a daily commuter and I am looking for advice on this. I work remotely for a US based firm and I recently got an offer to be an independent contractor for a US based consulting firm but based in Canada. One thing the onboarding documents mentioned is that I will be getting a W8-BEN. Is that ok for tax purposes as an H1 holder?

If not, what would be the alternative?

Best,
Vignesh

I am also in the same situation. Did you hear back on this? I commute for work to the US while living in Canada but I am also working part time as a self employed contractor on Upwork and I will be getting a W8-BEN. So basically I will have both a W2 and a W8-BEN form.

Happy to connect on this. Feel free to message me.

Sorry, just seeing this. So I was told to create an Incorp so that the taxes of the Incorp are separate from my taxes. This will solve for your headache as well.
