Hello everyone,
I need some clarification on calculating work experience as I was given some information by a consultant that I am not sure about.
I have been working at my job from sept 2014 for 19hours weekly. I intend to submit an appication in september when I would qualify for 3 years. Are the calculations done as follows?
19*52=988 for 1 year... so 5 years part time(sept 2019) would be 988x5= 4940hours which would give me equivalent 3 years experience..the consultant i spoke with said i would not be able 2 get the 3 years until sept 2020. Could someone please tell me what i'm missing?

This is the actual requirement.
  • at least 1 year of continuous work or 1,560 hours total (30 hours per week). You can meet this in a few different ways:
    • full-time at 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
    • equal amount in part-time: 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
    • full-time at more than 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
For part-time work, you can work more or less than 15 hours/week as long as it adds up to 1,560 hours.

We don’t count any hours you work above 30 hours/week.

If are work experience comes under anyone one of the bullet points ,you can consider the same for remaining 2 years calculation and you are good to go .

@JamesRodriguez if I have worked 40 hours/week in a job for a year, then will it count as more than a year?
  • full-time at 1 job: 40 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time + 840 extra hours?
Also, I have interned in the USA for 3 semesters(2 semester part-time and 1-semester full time). Can I add this to my work experience?
What about the on-campus job while I was studying at my university?

As I have mentioned above ,as per requirement

They don’t count any hours you work above 30 hours/week.

Yes ,any work counts while studying outside Canada, provided that ,it was paid, full time / part time and can be proved with a reference letters and pay stubs.
So,for internships also same requirements are followed that are mentioned in the below link

Internships must be paid and job duties should match substantially (70 percent of the duties mentioned in the Noc you choose)
Ircc says
  • paid work (This means you must have been paid wages or earned commission. Volunteer work or unpaid internships don’t count.)
Job duties are the life line of you reference letter without that you wont
get crs and fsw points.
Check out the details for proof of work experience

@JamesRodriguez One last doubt:

My work history is as follows:
April 2015 - March 2015: Part time - on-campus
Mar 2016 - May 2016 - Part-time intern
June 2016 - August 2016 - Full-time intern
Sep 2016 - Dec 2016 - Part-time intern
Feb 2017 - current - Full time

  • Can I sum up part times altogether and say I have (12 + 3 + 4 = 19 months) part-time or 1-year full time
  • There is a 2-month gap Between Dec 2016 to Feb 2017. Is that okay?
I am still awaiting my IELTS score and WES evaluation and I haven't created a profile to see how exactly to enter this info. If the system takes care of calculating my work experience years, then I think I am good. Any comments?

Make the work experence you gained from feb 2017 till now as primary noc ,I am assuming it to be continous and paid full time .

This will be around 2.5 years of work ex which will fetch you the threshold of 67 points for fsw eligibilty provided that ielts is 8777 or above and two more degreea or masters (ECA)

Once ,you clear that ,you enter crs system ,where you can claim any work exoerience in different noc or even one has gap.
So ,now ,you need 5 months work experience to get maximum score for crs work ex points.
These 5 months can be counted by claiming any one of the above mentioned by you.

And rest work experience you can put in personal history ,which doesnt require reference letters.

Note :Only the work experience youbare claiming for point requires reference letter.

Hope it clears everything.
