In reading the instructions, there are several descriptions of work experience

1. You can get points for the number of years you have spent in full-time paid work (at least 30 hours per week, or an equal amount of part-time).

2. Your work experience must be:
at least one year (1,560 hours total / 30 hours per week), continuous full-time or an equal amount in part-time,
paid work (volunteer work, unpaid internships do not count),
in the same job,
within the last 10 years, and
at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2011 National Occupational Classification (NOC).

If you spent 2 years at one eligible NOC, got promoted, spent 2 years in an eligible NOC that's a step up, got promoted again, and spent 2 years in the next eligible NOC, when you are answering the qualification question, do you enter 6 years of experience because you spent at least a year in each NOC?

Or do you enter 2 years, because it was only 2 years in a single NOC?

Thank you

Work exp. only in your primary NOC will be considered for eligibility of FSW. So if it's 2 years, then you can count points for only 2 years work exp.

So, does that mean if I only have 2 years of NOC xxxx, plus 2 years of NOC yyyy, I can only claim 2 years?

No, whatever you enter in the work history will be totaled. For the primary NOC, it must be at least one year continuous. This is according to the minimum work experience for FSW.

When choosing a primary occupation, you must take note of the minimum requirement for work experience for FSW.

------
http://www.ci.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/econ/fsw/minimum.asp

Minimum work experience requirement

The applicant must have accumulated at least one year of continuous full-time (or the equivalent in part-time) paid work experience in the occupation identified in their application for permanent residence as their primary occupation. In calculating this period of work experience, the occupation must be listed in skill type 0 (Managerial occupations), skill level A (Professional occupations) or skill level B (Technical occupations and skilled trades) of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2011 [R75(2)(a)].

I think what got me confused is the following: I got invited by FSW and my primary NOC is 0632. I have 1,8 years of experience on this NOC, however, I have over 4 years of experience on NOC type 0. According to the FSW, I got the points, but if they only count noc 0632, then it will be definitely less. does that make sense? what would be counted against my work experience? The NOC code or the NOC type? According to my information given on EE, they gave me over 3 years of experience, but while reading the fsw requirements i got confused

For EE (this is the CRS points), you will be given points for maximum 3 years foreign work experience. On the other hand, for FSW (the 67/100 grid), max points (15 pts) will be accorded for 6 years and above. For both the EE and FSW, it does not matter whether NOC is skill level 0,A, or B.

However, minimum requirement (your eligibility) is another thing. See my first post for the link. You can have different NOCs in your work history, and the length of those NOCs, 1 month, 1 year or 5 years, does not matter as long as your primary NOC meet the one year continuous requirement. I hope I did not confuse you more. :)

Hi iamxty,

It actually confused me more lol... i was under the impression EE and FSW were the same thing. I applied for EE and got ITA through there, but it says I was invited as a FSW. "Based on the information you provided us in your Express Entry profile, we are pleased to invite you to apply for permanent residence under the Federal Skill Worker"

What is really your concern? Your eligibility as FSW or your NOC or points for those NOCs?

But here it is if you are confused between EE and FSW. For me they are different. EE is the system CIC used to select candidates from the pool to invite to apply for PR. There are different programs under the EE system, which includes FSW, CEC, FST, and also some PNPs.

Before you create an EE profile, your eligibility to the different programs or streams is determined through the questions in the "Come to Canada tool". For each program, there are different eligibility criteria. For your case, you were eligible for the FSW stream, which is the 67/100 under the six selection factors.

Now here comes the tricky part. How about CRS? If you are eligible to any of the EE programs, you are placed to the pool and ranked through your CRS points, regardless of which stream you are eligible. When CIC sends invitations, the draws are usually for all streams or programs, whether you are under CEC, FSW, FST, or PNP, you will receive an ITA as long as your CRS is the minimum cut-off or more.

I hope I made the distinction between EE (the CRS) system and the FSW program.

I have two main concerns: 1. When applying for EE, I added all my different NOCs (0,A,B) experience, which sums up to over 3 years. If I had to have it on one NOC only, then I would not have received an ITA and could be banned for 5 years as my primary NOC I have only 1,9 years of experience!!

2. Thinking that CRS points are OK and my ITA is valid, would I be able to apply to FSW if it changes the requirements?

I don't know how you entered your work experience in your EE profile. I am also confused in that 1,9 years of experience. Is that 1.9 years? (sorry, I know for other countries they use comma for the point in numbers). If it is 1.9 years then you are good to go. The EE system already determined your eligibility and whatever information you entered there means you are eligible to the FSW stream.

What requirements? What change? See above for the eligibility.

Thanks again for your post. I meant 1.9 as 1 year and 9 months. So all should be good, right?

Hi all,
I badly require a help..really confused..
I have a total experience of 3.3 years in the same employer with same NOC code
The only problem is that I worked for 1.8 years and then had a year break then joined back and worked for 1.7 years.i do have a minimum eligibility for the FSWP stream of 1 year and full time. However my consultant is saying they cant count the months since Cic says it should be continous so can consider only 2 years only.. I am loosing my points here :(

My next question is when we create the express entry profile how the tool consider our total work experience points??? Crs tool in CIC website I had to enter my years of experience.

I am new here. Appreciate your time andresponses. Wish luck to all aspirants here..lovely group
