Hi Everyone,

I got an PT from Ontario PNP. I have 10 month of experience as a software developer and worked more than 1560 hours. I was laid off for shortage of work and was on EI for next four months. I recently got a new job as a IT consultant.

I was wondering if I am still eligible for CEC since they require only 1560 hours in past 12 months or does it have to be complete 12 months of period to apply. I also have the reference letter from both previous and current employer.

UPDATE

I also worked as an Computer Technician ( NOC 2282 - User Support Tech) for four months. Will this qualify as an add-on to the 10months period ?

10 - Software Developer and 4(pt) = 2 months full-time ??

Thanks,
Anuj

To qualify under CEC, CIC clearly states..

Minimum requirements
You must have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before you apply.

No it does not have to be 12 consecutive months. the only thing I'm unsure of is the job differences between a software developer and an IT consultant. I'm unsure as to the NOC code. I thought it had to be the same NOC code.

There is a little bit difference between NOC codes. Software Developer is 2174 and IT consultant is 2171.

Does it have to be the same NOC code ? I thought any NOC code was fine.

It doesn't have to be consecutive, but it has to be at least 12 months.

Also, as I mentioned my paystub shows more than 1560 hours. This is what I read on their site, so not sure if you need 12 months or you just need 1560 hours.

Full Time

30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)

Part time

15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)

You need both. The rules are black and white. You don't qualify to apply under CEC as of now.

You need minimum 12 months and within those 12 months minimum 1560 hours. Your greater number of hours can not substitute 12 months requirement.
This is what stands on the web site above text you pasted which starts with "Full Time": Your experience must be at least 12 months of full-time (30 hours of paid work per week or more) or an equal amount in part-time hours.
