Hey everyone,

Quick question. I just noticed that on CIC site it states

Full Time
30 hours / week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)

but I was working @ 37.5 hours per week.

Does this mean I can recalculate and essentially have more work experience? I started working on June 2 2014 @ 37.5 hours, I have not change my employer and my 3 years will be this June but my work permit expires in MAY so I will short one month. or not? Has anyone seen this?

Thanks!!!

No. It essentially means you can't work less than 30 hours a week if you claim to be full time. You could work 80 hours a week but if you only worked 51 weeks you won't have a year of experience.

Question . what if your hours are fluctuating .some weeks you have worked 30+ sometimes less than 30 .but you still have your total year hours more than 1560 hours

Yes, as long as you have done more than 1560 hours over a full year. That's why they have the 1560 number as they are aware of shift work and averages.

oh cool thanks! and i guess thats the only way cic can find out if the individual have worked more than 30 hours per week or not if they don't then obviously they will be less than 1560 right?

Well your reference letter states how many hours a week you worked. So somone on part time hours for 2 years will count as a year of experience. Just make sure your ref letter states you worked over 30 hours or on average 30 hours a week for a year. :)

What if u have more than 1560 hours over the span of 52 weeks but you have taken 9 weeks of paid vacations as in the case of lecturers or professors in an educational institutions where u get 5 weeks off in summer and 1 week off after every semester

Since that is the "norm" for your occupation, it will likely be accepted. But not outside of academia.
