I was charged with theft over 10 years ago. I contacted the court house and found out the case was withdrawn. My rcmp clearance shows no charge at all. I asked the court house person to send me a copy of the charge to hand in with my application. they said i shouldnt need it as it wont even show up on my record. So should i simply answer no on the application for sponsorship and not even mention it if thats the case? I am the sponsor.

They will automatically check record here. AND you answered NO to that Q"Have you ever been CONVICTED.........xxxxxxxxx?" Apparently your answer would be NO. Why you worry about 10 yrs ago thing when you were not sentenced/convicted? Even if some 1 was convicted of a family violence or other serious crimes, then 5 years waiting applies be4 1 can sponsor. Your case 10 years ago ! Relax

Agree finger printing they do even if not gone to court yet. But did you stand in the witness box or not?

yes standing in witness box means some real TRIAL took place. If charges were withdrwan it should be OK anyways even if stood there..On top they are more concerened over FAMILY violence not small things like that. I had a friend she was charged and even convicted 4-5 times on shop lifting. Trust me she was given Canadian citizenship as the time was past 6-7 years. So you can relax.

If it is 10 years , AND charges were withdrawn, and U say there is NO record at all , I would NOT even mention nothing. Otherwise it is like buying a trouble u see..

Theres no record of it in the rcmp i had to request it from courthouse so i dunno if that counts as record

I disagree. If the question is whether you have been charged, the answe is yes. If the charges are withdrawn or dropped is a completely different matter. Always err on the side of caution. Include the documents showing it was withdrawn.

OK it is good thing to declare your honesty but sponsor forms only asking for convictions >>which result in a Criminal Record ..right? not aginast U or any 1 but may be I am wrong here!
