Hi all,

Thank you very much for this useful forum. I received a RQ last year (2012) and submitted the supporting documents. I've been waiting since then. As everyone with a RQ knows, the process is extremely slow. I'm thinking of withdrawing my application. What do I need to do?

Thanks a lot for the reply. Regarding the question about the reason for withdrawal, how to answer this question?

I would put something formal and simple like "not interested in pursuing Canadian citizenship anymore".

Be aware that information from this form will be accessed next time you'll apply for citizenship and, independently from a reason of withdrawal, RQ is far more likely if you'll choose to apply again.

Thanks. Suppose someone applied 4 or 5 years after withdrawing the application, can he/she still get a RQ? Just wondering!

Of course one can get an RQ, I guess the question if probability of getting it is higher.

Seems there's a high chance of getting RQ if you've had an abandoned or withdrawn application before.

In current climate at CIC surrounding residency, I'd expect it and plan accordingly from begging if I had to reapply.

From pages 16-17 of residency assessment manual (which is from better days, by the way):

Indications declared residence may be in question

The following list, while not exhaustive, includes indications that further inquiry into declared residence may be required. It is important to note that indications alone do not necessarily mean
a case of residence not being met. Their weight and credibility vary and must be considered in conjunction with all information on file.
...

Previous applications

• Applicant had a previous application for citizenship that was refused on residence. (CPC referral.)
Applicant had a previous application for citizenship that was abandoned or withdrawn. (CPC referral.)
Now combine that with withdrawal after getting RQ originally, and it aggravates your chances for fast processing the next time.

Though nobody knows what will happen in 4-5 years with CIC, maybe the whole process will be 6 months max. )

Yes, a previous application withdrawal triggers an RQ if you re-apply.

Thanks! Went through these indicators recently and somehow missed it.

This is automatic pre-test RQ by these rules.

Though something has changed in November 2012 and rate of pre-test RQ dropped noticeably (supposedly, some RQ issuing policies have been amended), we don't know what was changed exactly.

Thanks, all. It's definitely important to know the information you provided. Of course, keeping or withdrawing an application requires some thinking.

The only one we know for sure that has been updated is C1 – ID (provided in support of application) has been issued within 3 months of date of application.
"...C1, however under 407B interpretations, RQ no longer required."http://residencequestionnaire.wordpress.com/rq-triage-2013/

I doubt that A3 has been substantially changed.

Eileen, what does this mean?
I just tried to clarify my post a bit. I meant to say that we have documentation that trigger C1 has been revised, but no documentation of other revisions to the RQ risk criteria. Personally I doubt that A3 (previous withdrawn/denied/abandoned applications) has been or will be revised.

Oh okay, I understand now. Thanks Eileen.

I think you should just keeping waiting until you hear about your citizenship application status. You want to withdraw because you feel that you are waiting a long time, but then what if you apply again for Citizenship and you they ask for your RQ again a second time.
There are a lot of applicants who received RQ and were waiting for a long time before they were allowed to take the Oath. You are not alone. Why go through the long process twice.
