Hi all,
I am seriously considering withdrawing my application for Canadian Citizenship and put in a new one. I really don't have any hope that this will be resolved anytime soon so I really need to seriously consider that option.

One question though: is it possible to put in a second application while the first one is still in process? should I first withdraw the first application before putting in a new one? what is the process of withdrawing an application for Canadian Citizenship?

Your help/advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

Follow this link to withdraw. once your ECAS shows WITHDRAWN, apply again if you want so there is no confusion between files. If your case is complicated and you think by applying again, your case will be clearer (stable job, fulltime at school etc etc) do so, as new citizenship applications are faster and by the time the old application is processed, ull probably be canadian by then.

Hi,

Back in Aug 2014, I had to withdraw my wife's application and my lawyer said that we have to first withdraw the application and once that is completed (about two weeks) then re-apply again.

Hope this help.

I think you are lawyer may have told this to avoid confusion or to have a fresh start. You can have two applications with CIC and also direct them to put one on hold. If you do not give them direction they will choose to process the earliest dated application and put the other on hold until a decision is made on the other.

hi.. first check your own status/calculation, now you need clear 1460 days
in last 6 years, if you have enough days than re apply after withdraw your first
application.

- you must have clear papers i.e. passport, boarding passes for your trips ,
tax papers, lease/own papers cbsa report matching your all incoming records
etc.. than take a step...

But if you see website of CIC all cases will be finish by end of this year.

I suggest that you have a issue with USA record which CIC asking so better

write to your local office where your file is and inform him if they can proceed

with your application without the requested paper from USA authority than they

should proceed or otherwise you have left with no choice to withdraw let see their

response. Good luck..

Thank you so much for this information. I do meet all the requirements for the new law and I have only travelled once for 10 days in the last 4 years and no trip to the U.S so that could really make a big difference. I agree the $630 makes you wonder if one should re-apply and the whole process of withdrawing could could also take some time.

Hi janoo,

Thanks for your reply. CIC said they would try to clear all cases by the end of the fiscal year which is March 2016, so we still have quite a long time to go. If the past is any indication, I would say CIC always go past their deadlines, so I would not be surprised if by December 2016 we still had old cases such as ours. I also believe the March 2016 deadline is for routine cases only, so that would not apply to us unfortunately. What is really discouraging is that there absolutely no movement on old cases (2010/2011/2012). I wish one could just push a button to withdraw an application.

Just fill the withdrawing form and send it out. 1 to 2 weeks, it will show withdrawn on ECAS. In that time, gather new documents for the new application.

If you know you will be living in Canada in the next couple years and met the 1095 days, my advise is JUST WAIT.

- Wait for what?
- It's not 1095 days anymore.
