withdraw of co-signer

I am a cosigner in my husbands parents sponsorship application. It was filed in 2008. Me and my husband have been separated for an year now and as such I would like to withdraw my name from his application. He has left the country permanently. I was told by Immigration Canada that I have to get the signatures of all parties concerned (husband and parents) on the withdrawal application to be able to withdraw my name.
I do not understand why would that be required. My ex or his parents would never sign that application. I do not want to be penalized financially if his parents are sponsored to Canada. The application is still in process. I am frustrated with all the conditions posed by Immigration Canada.

Take a look at the instructions and contact information at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-after.asp.

Before you submit the withdrawal of your co-sponsorship, consider that it's not easy to rewind should you and your husband reconcile and the parent sponsorship stream is currently closed to new applications.

1. They gave you bad information. All you do is send either a letter, fax or specific email. Explain that you are separated and that you wish to withdraw as a co-signer. You don't require your spouse nor you in-laws signatures. It is your decision.

If application is In Process then send either a letter, fax or specific email to Immigration Office as soon as possible.

Take a look at the link I posted above which talks about 'after applying.' You can e-mail CPC-M using the links to either 'withdraw sponsorship application' or 'change in personal circumstances' and explain the situation to them. While the link is for spouses, you can contact CPC-M through the same links for parent sponsorship (or via fax or mail if you prefer). To avoid any misunderstanding, you could attach a signed letter to your e-mail explaining that you are separated and that you withdraw your co-sponsorship. If the application has made it to a visa office, send them a copy too through the case specific enquiry links in the page for each visa office at: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/apply-where.asp

Up until the visa is issued, you may withdraw your sponsorship directly with CIC. Your consultant may prefer to have all signatures on file to process it on your behalf but that is not a CIC requirement as far as I know so you should be able to do it directly with CIC (CIC has withdrawn co-sponsorships before based on a request from sponsors during a fight with folks asking how to backtrack that request before). If you wish to confirm this, call the CIC call centre at 1-888-242‑2100 M-F 8am-4pm your local time.

Thanks for the information. I followed up as recommended as eventually after about 8 months got a letter confirming my withdrawal of my cosignership.
